with Stephen Sanfilippo
$15
Sunrise Senior College is pleased to once again bring you Maritime Historian and folk singer Stephen Sanfilippo on a seafaring adventure of song and the maritime history of Maine. This in person only summer offering, held over 3 three separate sessions, will see Stephen presenting information and songs that will cover the following topics:
– Maritime History - What is it, why is it important, and how can it be presented through historic songs of the maritime trades?
– Maine’s Widespread Maritime Song Tradition
– Maine, the Atlantic, and the Revolutionary War and War of 1812
– Storms & Disasters – Working & Living & Dying in Nature
Each of the three classes will cover different material and songs from “BYGONE BALLADS of MAINE, volume 1: Songs of Ships & Sailors.” Stephen loves participation and singing in in his classes but it is not mandatory.
